TAGUIG CITY, March 8 (PIA) The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) today said the opposition of the so-called Makabayan Bloc in Congress to the economic amendments in the 1987 Philippine Constitution is based on an impractical and outdated economic model that would lead to higher unemployment and suffering for many Filipinos.
“The so-called Makabayan Bloc opposes the lifting of the restrictive economic provisions in our constitution because they adhere to their own so-called ‘national industrialization program’ where the electric, water, mining, oil, telecommunications and transportation industries, among others, are to be confiscated from their owners and taken over by the State as dictated by their obsolete ideology,” said DILG Spokesperson and Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya.
House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco on Monday said the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines in the country should not be a reason for the public to be complacent amid the pandemic.

Why? Because according to DILG Undersecretary and spokesperson Jonathan Malaya, they have been consistently opposing the economic amendments in the 1987 Constitution.

Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo made the assurance during a meeting with House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, who sought their help in easing the public’s fear against the vaccination program. “If we need to take the vaccine publicly to increase the public’s confidence on the vaccination program, as bishops, we have agreed to do it,” he said in a statement on Thursday, March 4.
Father Antonio Labiao, Caritas Philippines’ executive secretary, said they have also offered church facilities to the local government units (LGUs) and the Department of Health (DOH) for use during the vaccination roll-out.
