FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) â Gov. Andy Beshear on Wednesday pointed to another sign that Kentuckyâs economy is recovering from the pandemic â a credit rating agencyâs upgraded assessment of the stateâs financial outlook.
In revising the stateâs rating to stable, Fitch Ratings said this week the change reflects Kentuckyâs âsolid economic recovery to date from the pandemic trough.â The rating agency noted the stateâs âsolid ability to control revenues and expenditures to maintain fiscal balanceâ and its âdeclining reliance on one-time measures.â Fitch had previously rated the stateâs outlook as negative.
Gov. Andy Beshear has sued Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers and House Speaker David Osborne over legislation the Republican-dominated legislature recently passed that significantly reduces the number of Kentucky State Fair Board members the governor can appoint. There s only one executive branch, and it s headed by the governor, Beshear told reporters during an unrelated event Monday. And every time you try to move governance outside of there and let other people make decisions that aren t accountable to the voters . the less responsibility you get.
His lawsuit, filed Friday in Jefferson Circuit Court, aims to invalidate House Bill 518, which cut the number of governor-appointed voting members on the State Fair Board from 12 seats down to five and shifted more appointment power to the Kentucky agriculture commissioner instead.

In 2012, when PGA golfer “Bubba” Watson won the Masters tournament, he was asked if he had ever dreamed of winning such a prestigious event. Blinking back tears, Watson replied that his “dreams had never gotten this far.”
Parents of children forced to attend substandard public schools, particularly here in Jefferson County, have also had seemingly unattainable dreams of someday being able to choose and, more importantly, afford a different path for their children. Turning those dreams into reality for families in Kentucky’s 13 most populous counties is now possible thanks to the recent passage of House Bill 563 by the General Assembly. (I predict this reform will be extended statewide by the end of the next legislative session.)

FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) â Pro-life supporters were thankful and pleased Tuesday with the Senate passage of a constitutional amendment on abortion that puts the issue in the hands of Kentucky citizens.
House Bill 91 is one sentence, but it speaks volumes and the Senate recognized that by passing it in the last hours of the 2021 General Assembly.
The amendment that will be put on the ballot in November 2022 simply states: âTo protect human life, nothing in this Constitution shall be construed to secure or protect a right to abortion or require the funding of abortion.â If it passes the constitution would then pre-empt any court ruling that could legalize abortion in the state
