Tester unveils massive plan for veterans suffering from toxic exposure by   WASHINGTON Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., unveiled a massive plan Tuesday to extend disability benefits to veterans of all eras who suffer the effects of toxic exposure, with a particular focus on veterans who served in overseas conflicts since 1990.   The effort includes older veterans, too. The bill calls for presumptive benefits for Vietnam War veterans who have developed hypertension because of exposure to chemical herbicides, as well as veterans who served in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Guam or American Samoa during certain periods of the 1960s and 1970s and were potentially exposed to herbicides.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.- House Republicans continue to call on the Pritzker administration to implement policy changes in Illinois’ veterans’ homes after the deadly COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle facility. Republicans claim there’s been “no action” to ensure veterans’ safety going forward following last Tuesday’s hearing. Rep. David Welter (R-Morris) explained while the hearing went over four hours long, lawmakers weren’t able to ask important questions to make the necessary changes. “I have several more questions for the Deputy Governor and, unfortunately, I didn’t have that opportunity in the committee,” said Welter. “I’m hoping there will be another one scheduled where we will be able to ask the follow-up questions. But depending on how the Deputy Governor answers those, I’m really finding a lot of issues with her recollection of events.”
