Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to announce a re-vamped cabinet today prompted by the retirement of former finance minister Mathias Cormann.
Simon Birmingham has already taken over the finance portfolio and replaced Mr Cormann as leader of the government in the Senate.
Education Minister Dan Tehan is expected to take over the trade portfolio as Australia tries to mend ties with China.
The aged care portfolio is also expected to be elevated to the cabinet.
Defence Minister Linda Reynolds, Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton and Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne are all expected to retain their positions despite early speculations of changes to security portfolios.

In just a matter of hours, the ASIO Amendment Bill was pushed through both the House of Representatives and the Senate with virtually no debate, accompanied by lavish praise for ASIO, the main domestic political surveillance agency.
The legislation allows ASIO to secretly interrogate teenagers as young as 14, rather than 16. It also extends ASIO’s coercive questioning powers beyond alleged terrorism-related activity to suspected “foreign interference,” “espionage” and “politically motivated violence.”
