A government accountability watchdog group filed a complaint with the House Ethics Committee on Tuesday, demanding Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Tx., be expelled from Congress for his alleged role in what a federal investigator described as a concerted effort on the part of top Veterans Affairs officials to smear a sexual assault victim.
The complaint, filed by the Campaign for Accountability (CfA), draws on a recent report from the VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) describing efforts at the highest levels of the agency to undermine the department s probe into a woman s allegation that a contractor had assaulted her in a VA hospital. The report outlines a number of troubling issues, including allegations that VA Secretary Robert Wilkie disparaged the woman after personally looking into her background.

The director of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and her chief of staff faced members of the House Veterans Affairs Committee on Wednesday as state officials question how the coronavirus outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans Home started and what was done to prevent the spread of the virus that’s killed 33 veterans.
Linda Chapa LaVia, an Army veteran and director of the state’s VA department, and Tony Kolbeck, her chief of staff, appeared along with Dr. Avery Hart, who represented the state Department of Public Health, to answer questions about the spread of the virus at the LaSalle Veterans Home.

The Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia scheduled 101,053 pending appointments across its nine locations in November 2020 compared to 157,845 the same month the previous year, according to data collected from the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
Of the total number of appointments in November 2020, 91,935 had a wait time of 30 days or less (91%) and 9,118 appointments (9%) were scheduled more than 30 days out.
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in January 2019 reported that wait times for new appointments at VA health care facilities were similar to or better than wait times at private-sector providers between 2014 and 2017.
