Conservatives in US ready to blame liberals for Afghan failure

WASHINGTON: Distinguished American newspaper The Washington Post in an editorial on Thursday said that conservatives in the United States are once again preparing to put the blame of failure in Afghanistan on the liberals as they had been doing in the past whenever anything bad happened.
The editorial reads: “After nearly 20 years, the US military presence in Afghanistan is rapidly winding down; within days, only around 1,000 of our troops will be left there, to guard our embassy and the airport in Kabul. Just as pretty much everyone expected, the Taliban is rapidly taking control of large sections of the country. It will be a disaster for the Afghan people, just the latest turn in decades of misery, war, oppression and deprivation they have endured.

Jen Psaki said the administration “supports [Haitian] Democratic institutions” and that it is urging all the “Haitian political parties and civil societies” to come together to work for calm.

President Joe Biden says the U.S. military operation in Afghanistan will end on Aug. 31, delivering an impassioned argument for exiting the nearly 20-year war without sacrificing more American lives even as he bluntly acknowledged there will be no “mission accomplished” moment to celebrate.
Biden pushed back against the notion the U.S. mission has failed but also noted that it remains unlikely the government would control all of Afghanistan after the U.S. leaves. He urged the Afghan government and Taliban, which he said remains as formidable as it did before the start of the war, to come to a peace agreement.
