Washington, D.C. Today, U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) cosponsored the bipartisan Documenting Adversarial Trade Aggression (DATA) Act. This bill establishes a China Economic Data Coordination Center within the Bureau of Economic Analysis at the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Center would serve as a one-stop shop for information on China’s economic health and work in coordination with federal agencies and the private sector to collect and consolidate data on China’s financial markets. This legislation was introduced by U.S. Congressman Anthony Gonzalez (OH-16) in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) in the U.S. Senate.

The State Department needs to take action on sexual harassment and assault among its workforce, lawmakers say.
Thirty-five lawmakers, led by Reps Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), urged U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to use his authority to implement parts of a bill from the last Congress in a May 25 letter. We write to voice concerns about long-standing issues of sexual harassment and assault at the Department and to urge you to use executive authority, they wrote. For years, civil service and foreign service officers have spoken out about misconduct, including sexual harassment and assault, and a lack of accountability for misconduct at the Department.
Days Before Approving Humanitarian Aid to Gaza, State Department Agreed to Contentious Bomb Sale to Israel
TODAY, the Biden administration committed more than $5 million to rebuilding Gaza after Israeli bombing left swathes of the territory in ruins, with medical facilities, homes, and roads destroyed or damaged by the aerial attack that killed at least 248 people this month.
But even as the administration takes steps to aid Gaza, its State Department has approved a $735-million sale of bombs to Israel, bypassing congressional opposition. On May 21st, according to a congressional staffer, the department granted Boeing an export license for the sale of Joint Direct Attack Munitions and Small Diameter Bombs two kinds of laser-guided munitions that were reportedly used by Israel in the 11-day attack on the Gaza Strip that ended on Friday with a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
