Emily Taylor Andrews Leeds, of Middlebury

Wed, 03/10/2021 - 3:48pm sarahp EMILY TAYLOR ANDREWS LEEDS MIDDLEBURY Emily Taylor Andrews Leeds, of Middlebury, Vt., died peacefully on March 2, 2021, following a mercifully short battle with cancer. Emily loved being active outdoors and sharing her love of nature and animals. She was a ski instructor at Catamount, Otis Ridge and Butternut ski areas in Massachusetts; Keystone and Berthoud Pass ski areas in Colorado; and the Middlebury College Snow Bowl in Vermont. Emily spent more than 30 years helping new skiers find balance, confidence, and fun on the boards. For many years Emily shared her love of horses with new riders, giving horseback riding lessons to both children and adults at Cobble Hill Farm in Middlebury. Her love of animals included too many four-leggeds to list, but most recently included her dear sweet Sammie, the black lab who was never far from her side at Eastview at Middlebury.

During a pandemic, though, that s not always possible. “I just observe everything they do and I m learning about being a vet technician or a veterinarian,” said Carson Williams, a senior at MacArthur High School, who is spending three afternoons a week at Northgate Pet Clinic. “Because of COVID, there are lots of restrictions about me touching the animals and everything, so right now all I can really do is observe.” If not for the pandemic, said Practice Manager Becca Babar, he would be allowed to help comfort and restrain animals for procedures, for example, but they re making the best of the situation.

Asheville to finish $3 5M French Broad greenway link; move homeless camps

ASHEVILLE - The city will start construction on a long-anticipated section of greenway along the French Broad River, a project that officials say will require the relocation of homeless people camped there. The 1-mile section of greenway will connect French Broad River Park to the French Broad River Greenway West with construction expected to start in April and finish in June 2022, following a March 9 City Council vote to approve funding. The path starts north of New Belgium and currently ends to the south at Haywood Road. The only connection now on the property mostly owned by Duke Energy Progress is a gravel road and hilly trail that dips down to the river.
