• 83 transitional housing homes The Government’s commitment to ensuring more New Zealanders have warm, dry, healthy homes is paying off in Auckland, where the Housing Minister Megan Woods today opened a 167 unit apartment in Glen Eden and 83 transitional homes in Ōtahuhu. “This is a critical time for New Zealand as we work toward everyone having a warm, safe and healthy place to call home. The best way to address the growing demand is to bring on more quality housing at pace, as we continue to recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Revealed: Auditor-General deems Government s Ihumātao purchase unlawful

Revealed: Auditor-General deems Government s Ihumātao purchase unlawful Newshub 2 hrs ago © Newshub / Zane Small Housing Minister Megan Woods. The Auditor-General has deemed the Government s Ihumātao deal unlawful because Parliament did not approve a new spending category to purchase the land. The disputed south Auckland land was purchased from Fletcher Building in December for $30 million. The Government said it was bought using the Land for Housing Programme, which falls under the KiwiBuild umbrella. But the Auditor-General has investigated the deal and found that the Government ended up having to create a special spending appropriation in February because the purchase did not fit within existing housing policy.
