Swindon wins again on Eastern Village infrastructure cash
Swindon Borough Council has scooped another tranche of roads cash for the planned New Eastern Villages development, with the Department for Transport (DfT) allocating a further £11.6m to supporting works.
In total, the Southern Connector Road project is estimated to cost £30.5m, with Homes England providing a further £18.9m from the Housing Infrastructure Fund, on top of the DfT cash.
The project includes a new access road between the A419 Commonhead roundabout and the southern end of the new development, enabling the construction of 4,150 new homes .
There will also be a footway and shared-use path running either side of the new road for pedestrians and cyclists, while a new signalised junction at Commonhead and a mini roundabout at Wanborough village will help manage traffic flow in the area.

Swindon will benefit from a multimillion-pound road scheme to provide fast journeys between the town and the planned New Eastern Villages development, Transport Minister Baroness Vere announced today (15 May 2021).
The project – supported by £11.6 million of funding from the Department for Transport (
DfT) and led by Swindon Borough Council – will include a new access road between the A419 Commonhead roundabout and the southern end of the new development, enabling the construction of 4,150 new homes.

Contractors have been appointed to design the layout of the Banwell bypass.
Alun Griffiths Contracting Ltd will work with North Somerset Council to design and construct the Banwell Bypass, with public engagement to help decide the bypass route due to start this summer.
Cllr Steve Bridger, the council s executive member for assets and capital delivery, said: “Banwell bypass is a key project in North Somerset, set not only to reclaim the village of Banwell for its residents, but to act as a crucial investment that can serve our communities for years to come.
