ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Governor Larry Hogan has announced an additional $192.9 million in funding to local governments and service providers through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program.
We’re told these federal funds will support local Maryland Eviction Prevention Partnership initiatives that assist tenants whose ability to pay rent has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding is in addition to $143 million in federal assistance that was allocated directly to eight jurisdictions with populations over 200,000.
Hogan also announced that the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development will reopen its Assisted Housing Relief Program, which provides rental assistance to tenants in properties financed by the department. This program will reopen with a $40 million allocation and serves rental units in multifamily projects financed by the department’s Community Development Administration using state funds or federal resources.
County Launches $59 Million Rent Relief Program
Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is currently accepting applications for eligible Montgomery County renters in need of financial assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis while funds are available.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted the economic wellbeing of our poorest and most vulnerable renters and we must do everything in our power to keep them in their homes,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich.
Eligible households may receive up to $12,000 and those below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI), may receive additional financial help. Households that have already received a COVID-19 Rent Relief Grant, a State-Assisted Housing Relief Program grant or housing-voucher recipients are still eligible.
