Manatee County s Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher applications to open

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Section 8 program helps recipients pay a set portion of the rent at any housing unit they may find that meets certain standards. They are not restricted to choosing only housing in subsidized housing projects, according to HUD. Calhoun said applicants who meet certain preferences will be placed with higher priority on the random list of the chosen 3,000 applicants. Those who are disabled, veterans, elderly and live locally have higher priority than families and individuals who do not meet those preferen Regardless of how many people apply, the pre-applications will stay open for the full four days, Calhoun said. Once the random list is created, applicants will work with case managers to gather documents and complete the process.
