More than 5,000 veterans, their spouses and children are buried at the cemetery, including Navy Steward Mate 1st Class Ignacio C. Farfan, 21, of Hagåtña. Farfan s remains were identified in 2015 and returned to Guam in 2018, 77 years after he was killed in the attacks in Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
Farfan was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including Farfan. Upon his return to Guam, he was buried with full military honors.

The Leavenworth County Development Corporation is notifying local city and county officials about a search for the location of a new state veterans home in northeast Kansas.
Steve Jack, executive director of LCDC, mentioned the search Thursday during a meeting of LCDC’s Board of Directors.
Jack said he was contacted by Gregg Burden, director of the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs Office, about the project.
“They’re looking for a 25-to-50-acre site,” Jack said.
Jack said state officials are looking for land that can be donated for a long-term care facility. The facility likely would employ about 125 people.
PITTSBURGH A resident of Bulger, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court to three years probation and the forfeiture of $1.75 million on his conviction of maintaining a drug involved premises and money laundering, Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman announced today.
United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence on Stephen K. Shaner.
According to information presented to the court, Shaner was the owner and operator of SKS Associates, Inc., a buprenorphine clinic located in Johnstown, Pa. Buprenorphine is a controlled substance that is prescribed to opioid addicted patients and is dispensed under the names of Suboxone, Subutex, and Zubsolv. Two of the doctors employed at SKS Associates prescribed buprenorphine outside the course of professional practice and not for a legitimate medical purpose. On many instances the doctors did not see or physically examine the patients they were treating and the patients were given pre-signed prescriptions
