Veterans Call on Dan Crenshaw to Resign for Alleged Role in Disparaging Female Vet

At least two veterans groups, along with more than a thousand individual former service members and Department of Defense civilians, have called for the resignation of Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) over his alleged role in helping a top Trump administration official collect discrediting information about a female veteran who said she was sexually assaulted.
Common Defense, a progressive veterans group, joined the likes of the left-leaning organization Vote Vets on Wednesday in calling for the first-term lawmaker to step aside after an independent government watchdog report said he tried to disparage the victim, Andrea Goldstein, by feeding information to Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie that could disparage her reputation.
By STEVE BEYNON | STARS AND STRIPES Published: December 16, 2020 WASHINGTON Several major veterans organizations on Wednesday called on President Donald Trump to fire Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie after a federal watchdog report found he and his senior staff mishandled a congressional aide’s claim that she was sexually assaulted at a VA hospital. “Our organizations have concluded that as a result of the secretary’s personal actions in this matter, he no longer has the trust or confidence of America’s veterans and should be removed,” according to a letter from the veterans groups sent to Trump. “This is a tremendous breach of trust among veterans and Secretary Wilkie must be held accountable. His actions not only threaten to deter veterans from seeking care at VA, but also undermine the efforts of VA staff who have been working to bring an end to sexual harassment throughout the department.”

New Jersey Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a former Navy pilot, called Tuesday for Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie to resign over his response to a female veteran’s charge of sexual assault.
Sherrill said she was responding to a report by the agency’s inspector general that found “substantial evidence that Secretary Wilkie and other senior VA leaders doubted the veteran’s allegations and questioned her motivation almost immediately after learning of her complaint.”
“The secretary of the VA is responsible for the veterans in his care, and they should be his first concern not his own political well being,” said Sherrill, D-11th Dist. “Secretary Wilkie should resign immediately.”
