Surat: Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) held an online exam for first and third semester of postgraduate and undergraduate courses on Saturday. Total 14,619 students appeared in the exam held online for the first time. Second and fourth semester students have been given mass promotion as per their eligibility.
One MA student Payal Tandel appeared for semester one Sanskrit exam in between her wedding from her home. Tandel dressed in bridal attire skipped one of her wedding rituals to appear for the exam and later rejoined the ceremony, said sources at VNSGU. “Due to the online exam, the student could attend the exam and also continue another important event of her life. Many students benefited due to the arrangement,” said a university official.
Surat: In an important decision on interdisciplinary flexibility in academics, the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) approved admission of Class 12 students from science and arts streams to Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) course.
The move is part of the several changes likely to be brought in the academic structure of the university to compete with other private universities. The Diamond City has five private universities in and around Surat.
VNSGU had been mulling the idea for over five years but no decision was taken till now. “This will help students to choose the course of their preference at a later stage and will provide better employment opportunities as well,” said K N Chavda, vice-chancellor, VNSGU.

SURAT: Life, for the children of Shiba Pradhan, a migrant worker from Odisha who served as a peon in the department of human resource development (DHRD) in Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU), will be difficult but won’t stop after their father lost the battle to Covid-19 in April. A grateful department has ensured that Pradhan’s children will be able to continue with their studies.
In a move to honour Pradhan’s dedicated service of around two decades at the varsity, students, faculties and alumni of the department collected Rs 4.2 lakh fund in the past two months. They created a Shiba Welfare Fund and opened a bank account, in which people were appealed to donate. Faculties and students launched an online campaign to create awareness about the fund.
By the end of June, VNSGU plans to start admissions. “The dates are not finalized yet. We will start the process to create enrolment ID by asking students to apply based on their Class 10 marksheet. This will save over a week’s time,” said Dr K N Chavda, vice-chancellor, VNSGU.
