In coming years, every Erie School District student entering Erie High will have graduated from a United Way community school.
Under a partnership formally announced Thursday, which the Erie Times-News previously reported, Grover Cleveland, JoAnna Connell, Jefferson and Lincoln elementary schools and Woodrow Wilson Middle School will become community schools. All of the district s elementary and middle schools will be community schools once the strategy is implemented at those buildings.
The Erie School District will use federal funding from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) provision of the federal, $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan to pay for the community school model at those five buildings. Because American Rescue Plan funding must be used by the end of 2024, the United Way has agreed to cover the costs in the years that follow.
