Wexford-Osceola Habitat for Humanity Preparing for A Brush with Kindness Projects

The program is known as ‘A Brush with Kindness.’ The $25,000 donation from TCF Bank will be used to help with things like window replacement, painting and landscaping. There are certain requirements to be eligible, and habitat for humanity says these changes go a long way for homeowners “It just gives them pride in their home. We worked on a project last month where a woman had not been able to leave her house for a doctor’s appointment because he front porch was dangerous, We went down there and the smile she had for us when we were done with that project was just priceless,” said Executive Director Amy Gibbs.

A donation as big as a house

Many times people donate their time or money to organizations such as the Wexford Osceola Habitat for Humanity to aid in their mission. Recently, a large donation was given to the non-profit organization, but it wasn t a donation of a person s time or money. It was a house. A family from southeast Michigan with roots in the region and who also has spent many summers on Lake Missaukee is donating the 1,250 square foot home with a two-car attached garage. Wexford Osceola Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Amy Gibbs said the family decided to build their dream home on the property but wanted to do something with the existing home besides demolishing it. After some brainstorming, Gibbs said the family decided they wanted to bless another family by donating their existing home to Wexford Osceola Habitat for Humanity.

Wexford-Osceola Habitat For Humanity Helping Move Home

Wexford-Osceola Habitat For Humanity Helping Move Home May 3, 2021 An individual who lives downstate wanted to build their dream home at their Lake City lakefront property, so instead of demolishing their old house, they donated it. Crews lifted the house off its foundation, and now, it’s waiting for a buyer. At first, Habitat for Humanity thought about relocating the home for a Habitat family, but decided to sell it and try to help several families. “Because this isn’t a typical habitat house, we wanted to figure out how we could do the most work with this donation,” said Amy Gibbs, Executive Director for the Wexford-Osceola Habitat for Humanity.  “So we’re gonna sell the house and use all the proceeds that we make on the sale to repair and build safe and affordable housing for other habitat families.”
