Portage man accepts pleas for part in meth case

CADILLAC — A 30-year-old Portage man accepted pleas for two drug-related offenses in Wexford County s 28th Circuit Court. Joshua John Lepley pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and attempted maintaining a drug house or vehicle for his connection with an incident on March 26 in Cherry Grove Township. As part of the plea, charges of a prisoner in possession of contraband, lying to a peace officer and conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine will all be dismissed at sentencing. Second or subsequent offense notices on the possession and conspiracy offenses and a habitual offender fourth offense notice also will be dismissed at sentencing.

Cadillac area bridges to get routine maintenance

CADILLAC — During the next few weeks, residents around the Cadillac area will notice multiple bridge projects. On Monday, the bridge over U.S. 131 on Crosby Road — near the new Wexford County Jail — was down to one lane as Michigan Department of Transporation crews did routine maintenance on the structure. This work included cleaning and resealing the expansion joints and deck patching, according to MDOT Cheif Bridge Construction Engineer Rick Liptak. Liptak said while this type of work takes several days and includes removal, prep and recast with new concrete, there also will be shorter daytime projects across the area for the next few weeks. Once done those smaller projects are completed, Liptak said crews will move on to another bridge.

Lake City man sentenced on weapons, drug offenses

CADILLAC — A 45-year-old Lake City man pleaded guilty recently to multiple offenses including weapons and drug charges in Wexford County s 28th Circuit Court. Ulysses Stewart Lumpkin pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon, A Ruger .357 revlover pistol, and possession of Fentanyl less than 25 grams for his connection with an incident on Jan. 4 in Cadillac. As part of the plea, charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon, possession of methamphetamine, operating a motor vehicle while license suspended, revoked or denied and a habitual offender second offense notice will be dismissed at sentencing.  At 2 a.m. on Jan. 4, troopers from the Cadillac Michigan State Police Post observed a vehicle driven into a snowbank at a business located on M-115 in Cadillac, according to a release by police. The driver, later found to be Lumpkin, was found slumped over in his seat with a revolver sitting on his lap, police said.
