Sony provided a preview of three upcoming titles for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PlayStation 4 (PS4) consoles during its recent State of Play digital showcase.
The main highlight of the showcase was a tour of developer Insomniac’s PS5 action-adventure game
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, introducing some of the gameplay, characters and arsenal for the upcoming title, which has a June 11 release date.
The game sees heroes Ratchet and Clank go dimension-hopping as they take on an evil emperor from another reality.
Rift Apart also introduces a brand new playable character to the series – Rivet.
Rift Apart’s Creative Director Marcus Smith spoke during the stream, describing the upcoming title as a brand-new, full-length
The new Ratchet & Clank game proved the point of the PlayStation 5 when it was revealed last year. Developer Insomniac Games introduced
It was a cool trick one of those “showcasing the power of the PlayStation 5” moments.
But it doesn’t appear that Insomniac is relying solely on that technically dazzling interdimensional-travel-made-possible-by-the-PS5-SSD trick for
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Sure, Clank is now fully ray-traced (so are Ratchet’s eyes), and Insomniac is using the PS5’s DualSense controller to make Ratchet & Clank’s infamous arsenal of wacky guns feel more lifelike than ever. Insomniac also wants to surprise you with

Just as it promised earlier this week, Sony has shown off a big new chunk of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gameplay, and, if you missed it, you can now whet your appetite for the game s June launch on PS5 by watching the whole thing below.
For its latest Ratchet and Clank adventure, developer Insomniac is taking the twosome on a breakneck trip to another dimension, one that will supposedly offer a mix of brand-new locations and familiar favourites given an alternate-dimension twist.
Insomniac s latest gameplay demonstration kicks off in one of those new areas, a dazzling, bustling, neon-hued future-metropolis - complete with a sky full of flying cars, naturally - known as Nefarious City. Upon arrival, Ratchet discovers two things: firstly, robot buddy Clank has gone missing, and secondly, some familiar faces live in this strange, new dimension - although they aren t exactly as he knew them back home.
In a brand new State of Play presentation, Sony showed off gameplay of the incredible looking
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
The 15 minute video from creative director at Insomniac, Marcus Smith, gave us a detailed glimpse into what the game has in store when it releases on PlayStation 5 on 11 June.
The never-before-seen gameplay included a fresh look at combat, which looks as frenetic and responsive as ever. Ratchet – and new playable female Lombax Rivet – can now dash around levels to evade attacks, or utilise the Rift Tether item to teleport into dimensional tears around the levels.
And the wacky weapons the series is known for make a welcome return. The video showed off returning weapons like the Burst Pistol and new weapons like the shotgun-like Enforcer, the Topiary Sprinkler that turns enemies into plants, and the Shatterbomb grenades.
