Migrant Legalization and Rights: Ideas and Strategies from South America This post is part of a blog series featuring our global conference on April 13, 2021, Encuentro: Defending Migrant Rights Across the Americas April 6, 2021 A hemispheric lens on the Americas reveals two contrasting approaches to immigration in the last 20 years. The United States has used punitive immigration policies and collaborated with Mexico to deter immigrants and Central American asylum seekers from entering its southern border. In sharp contrast, South American governments have created migration policies that expand migrants access to legal residency and rights. These include the Mercosur Residency Agreement and Argentina s 2003 immigration law. These migration policies impact the lives of 11 million international migrants within South America in 2020.

While it is not the first time that American officials had sanctioned the wrong party, it turned out to be grave for Bazzoni, whose business was already marred by the COVD-19 pandemic.

Biden removes Venezuela-related sanctions on Italian oil firm

© Getty The Biden administration has lifted sanctions on Italian oil firms that the former Trump administration blacklisted on its final day in office over ties to Venezuela’s restricted oil sector. The Treasury Department on Wednesday removed the special designation of four entities related to Alessandro Bazzoni, who is described as the head of oil trading firms alleged to be part of an illicit network aimed at moving Venezuelan oil in violation of U.S. sanctions. The entities include Serigraphiclab, AMG S.A.S. Di Alessandro Bazzoni & C.; AMG S.A.S. Di Alessandro Bazzoni E C.; and AMG S.A.S. Di Alessandro Bazzoni And C.
