Venice paramedics administer COVID-19 vaccines to homebound residents
VENICE – Quietly over the past two weeks, paramedics with Venice Fire Rescue have been participating in a state pilot program to administer COVID-19 vaccines to homebound residents.
On Tuesday, Venice Fire Rescue Chief Shawn Carvey told the Venice City Council that paramedics have been administering between 10 and 20 doses per day.
“We’re the only department in this area that works under that program; we’re very fortunate to be part of that program,” Carvey said.
“The feedback from the community is, we’ve received happiness and tears,” he added.
As part of the process, Carvey said Venice Fire Rescue reached out to different community leaders, including the Central Venice Coalition and other homeowners associations the department regularly visits as part of its community outreach to establish a list of qualified homebound recipients.

VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) - Emergency crews were dispatched Thursday afternoon after a single-engine aircraft apparently belly landed at Venice Municipal Airport.
The Sarasota County 911 Dispatch call was made at about 1:15 p.m.
A Seawind 3000 experimental single-engine aircraft attempted to land at the airport when its landing gear did not fully engage, causing the wheels to collapse upon touching down. This caused the aircraft to skid approximately 620 feet on its belly before coming to a stop in the middle of the runway. The pilot was not injured.
VENICE – Nick Pachota offered fellow members of the Venice City Council insight Tuesday on his current state role as an incident commander in the state’s effort to administer COVID-19 vaccines.
“There is no doubt that if we have the vaccine on hand, we’re trying to put that in people’s arms,” said Pachota, the All Hazard Incident Management Team incident commander for Regions 6 and 7, as part of the Unified Command under the Florida Division of Emergency Management and Florida Department of Health on the State Emergency Response Team.
Region 7 includes Miami-Dade and Broward counties, while Region 6 includes counties on the Gulf Coast as far north as Manatee.
