A pilot farmworker vaccination program administering COVID-19 vaccines to agricultural workers across the Ventura County was highlighted Friday afternoon during a public briefing by county officials.
The latest site of the vaccination program was at Good Farms in Oxnard where more than 100 agricultural workers were set to receive their first vaccine dose on Friday. I wanted to thank everyone for providing this valuable, life-saving service today to our essential workers: the farmworkers of Ventura County, said Ventura County Supervisor Carmen Ramirez.
Ventura County Farmworker Vaccination Project helps protect essential workers from COVID-19
OXNARD, Calif. - Farmworkers with Good Farms in Oxnard were among the first to take part in the Ventura County Farmworker Vaccination Project.
113 of the essential workers lined up to get an extra layer of protection against COVID.
“There is a great opportunity for us because we work closely with about 10 other people daily, so for all of us to be vaccinated is a great benefit,” said farmworker Edgar Bautista.
Farmworkers are not yet eligible for vaccines based on the state s distribution phases, but public health leaders say getting at least some of them vaccinated is critical.
Ventura County elementary schools monitoring metrics for reopening
OXNARD, Calif. Schools in California can reopen once COVID-19 case rate falls below a certain number in their respective county. The Ventura County Office of Education says that could happen any day.
Elementary schools could be back in session in Ventura County soon, as case rates keep trending down. Current state guidelines allow elementary schools to reopen for in-person learning once the case rate falls below 25 per 100,000 people.
“I believe we are at the 25 right now,” said Dr. Cesar Morales, Deputy Superintendent for the Ventura County Office of Education. “But nonetheless we have to be at that rate for at least five days for schools to have the flexibility to be able to open if they meet all of those local parameters and conditions.”

Since COVID-19 vaccines are now available to Ventura County residents 65 and older in addition to Phase 1A, healthcare workers and those 75 and older some may be wondering exactly how to register to receive a vaccine.
