To boost numbers the county is rolling out pop-up vaccine sites in different areas. Ventura County public health workers are going door to door letting people know a vaccine pop-up site is in their community. “We do have a team out right now,” said Hannah Edmondson, a nurse for Ventura County Public Health. “They are going from door to door letting residents in the community know that we are here and we are available, and that they do not need an appointment. They can just come over right now and get a vaccine.”

Ventura County hosts pop-up vaccine clinics for residents 16 and up VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - A long line of people was seen at Durely Park in Oxnard Monday morning where Ventura County Public Health set up a pop-up vaccine clinic for residents. However, local health officials said they are noticing a drop in people signing up to get vaccinated due to what doctors call vaccine hesitancy. “Usually we fill up our open vaccination appointments within an hour of Monday morning start, and this morning we are a couple of hours out and we had not completely filled up,” said Ventura County Public Health Officer Dr. Robert Levin.

The COVID-19 related death toll for the county has reached the one thousand mark It’s a number Ventura County Public Health officials thought we’d never see. In the first months of the crisis, they were worried we might have two or three hundred deaths. But, the three deaths reported Friday pushed the county’s COVID-19 related total to an even 1000. Oxnard has had the most deaths in the county, with 358, followed by Ventura with 128 and Simi Valley at 65. For the Tri-Counties, the overall death toll is now at 1700 deaths. Santa Barbara County has had 444, and San Luis Obispo County 256.

Ventura County COVID vaccine: Students encourage peers to get vaccine

On Thursday, all Californians ages 16 and up became eligible to sign up for an appointment to get a COVID-19 vaccine dose. Ventura County Public Health reports that more than 4,800 county residents ages 18 and under have gotten a vaccine dose, and more than 43,000 ages 19 through 30 have gotten a dose as of April 14. Currently, people ages 16 and up can get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, according to the federal Food and Drug Administration. The Moderna vaccine is available for anyone 18 and older. Use of the third available vaccine, Johnson & Johnson, was suspended for investigation. For high school and college students who may be hesitant about getting the vaccine, several who have already gotten at least one dose of the vaccine encourage their peers to make their appointments when eligible.
