Ex-husband charged with murder of Oxnard woman reported missing

View Comments A Salinas man was charged with murder Tuesday in connection with allegedly killing his ex-wife in an agricultural area east of Oxnard.  Josefino Cayetano Maldonado, 41, appeared in Ventura County Superior Court for an arraignment hearing in the murder case. The Ventura County Public Defender s Office was appointed to represent him. He did not enter a plea Tuesday. Maldonado s arraignment hearing was continued to Aug. 10, court records showed. Family members said she had gotten into an unknown vehicle the previous night. She never came home and didn t return phone calls, police said, prompting the report to authorities.

Ventura County Woman Charged in 2018 Fatal Crash Dies Before Trial

By Janene Scully, Noozhawk North County Editor | @JaneneScully July 13, 2021 | 4:45 p.m. A defendant in a vehicular manslaughter case making its way through the Santa Barbara County Superior Court has died before her trial. On Friday, Judge James Herman dismissed the case against Sheri Ann Craig, 54, of Port Hueneme. She had been charged with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs causing injury in a 2018 crash near Buellton.  In addition to the two felony charges, Craig faced special allegations, or sentencing enhancements, for causing great bodily injury to more than one victim. About 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2018, an eastbound Honda Civic driven by Craig in the 7600 block of Highway 246 drifted into the dirt median while traveling about 60 mph and overturned several times, according to the California Highway Patrol.
