The preemie is the first baby born at a Ventura County hospital in 2021. Valentina Mendez is not just the first baby born in a Ventura County hospital in 2021. She s also a fighter.  The preemie was born 10 weeks early at 12:02 a.m. at Ventura County Medical Center. She weighed in at 3.17 pounds and was 15½ inches long. Through an interpreter, her 24-year-old mother Nancy Mendez said in Spanish that her daughter may be small but she is strong, and her name should reflect that.
