Doha: The Institute for Population Health (IPH) of Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) has published a scientific review of research detailing the dramatic upswing in the use of telehealth services prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Researchers at the IPH carried out an exhaustive review and analysis of 543 articles on the subject of telehealth published in 331 scientific journals during the first peak of the pandemic (from January 1, 2020 to June 10, 2020).
They found that the majority of scientific studies focused on telehealth were conducted in the United States, with the next highest number published in the United Kingdom, followed by Italy, India, Canada, Australia, France, China, Spain, and Singapore, in decreasing order.

Doha: The diabetes epidemic in the Middle East and North Africa region is one of the fastest growing epidemics globally.
According to findings published in Scientific Reports of the Nature group, Jordan is confronted with a large and rising diabetes epidemic over the next 30 years. The number of people living with diabetes is projected to increase, testing the already strained healthcare system.
The study, ‘Characterizing the type 2 diabetes mellitus epidemic in Jordan up to 2050’, was the product of a research collaboration between the National Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Genetics in Jordan; Jordan University of Science and Technology, and Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) in Qatar. The study investigated and forecasted diabetes burden up to 2050 and estimated the costs of this epidemic.

Doha: The impact of effective communication strategies on healthcare outcomes was explored by delegates from across the Mena region, Europe and the US at a virtual conference hosted by Weil Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q).
The Healthcare Communications in the Middle East conference brought together leading regional and international experts to share best practices, examine recent research, and discuss communication policies and standards in the healthcare systems of different countries.
The two-day event featured presentations, discussion sessions and four practical workshops on a wide range of issues, including the role of cultural competence training, current healthcare communications teaching strategies in Arabic-speaking countries, best practices for breaking bad news to patients and relatives, the impact of social media on healthcare communications, and health literacy in the Mena region. The annual Lifestyle Medicine Week of the Institute for Population Health at WCM-Q drew record numbers as it went fully online due to the pandemic.

Doha: A record number of participants took part in this year’s edition of Lifestyle Medicine Week, an annual initiative by the Institute for Population Health (IPH) at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q).
Held online for the first time since its launch in 2018, the week-long series of events drew participants from Qatar and beyond. The participants engaged in a healthy cooking competition, learn stress management techniques, connect with others through an online trivia quiz, and join in with live physical activity sessions.
