Construction of Weyburn s new recreation and culture project 99 per cent complete

To date, construction is 99 per cent complete with specialty finishes being installed and mechanical system commissioning underway. The facility remains on track for its scheduled opening in September 2021. Under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, the Government of Canada will contribute up to $500,712, and the Government of Saskatchewan will contribute up to $417,218 toward the Credit Union Spark Centre (Weyburn Recreation and Cultural Centre) for several out-of-contract amenities including the indoor playground structure located in the MNP Play Centre, a National Hockey League sized arena board system, half-size International Federation of Association Football synthetic sports turf, synthetic sports turf covering, score clocks, spectator bleachers, and multi-sport video simulators.

Weyburn Rotary Music Festival awards scholarships

The Stars of the Festival was held virtually on Wednesday evening, and the scholarship recipients were announced by emcees Colleen Weimer and Bob King, and the performances were dedicated to the memory of the late June Barber, a a former musician and piano teacher, and the late Isabelle Butters, who was a patron of the arts and a former mayor of Weyburn. Music Festival president Heather Sidloski said in her introduction to the Stars performance, “Although public performances have been limited this year, students have continued their music journey by taking virtual music lessons, practicing at home, and recording performances to share with others.”

One week left to vote in James Weir exhibition

Once the People’s Choice exhibition has wrapped up, the Allie Griffin Art Gallery will no longer be used for art exhibits. There are preparations to replace this gallery with the new gallery in the Credit Union Spark Centre, which will house the arts and recreation programs for the City of Weyburn. An exhibit entitled “Living Skies”, featuring works by Kelly Meng Stephenson, is on display at the Weyburn Credit Union gallery from now until April 29. Stephenson was the top winner of last year’s People’s Choice exhibition. The next featured artist at the gallery will be Kendra Garbe.
