Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Department of Labor Commissioner Michael Harrington today issued the following statement: “On Monday April 26, 2021, the Vermont Department of Labor received formal notification from Koffee Kup Bakery (KKB), in the form of a Notice of Potential Layoff (also referred to as a WARN Notice), that the company was ceasing operations at its Burlington and Brattleboro facilities effective immediately. In an effort to immediately support the roughly 250 Vermonters who have lost their jobs, our Workforce Development and Unemployment Insurance divisions have begun the process of coordinating Rapid Response services. Additionally, a number of employers across the state have contacted the Department of Labor interested in hiring individuals who were impacted by this closure.

(AP) - A single human error was the likely cause of the Vermont Department of Labor sending thousands of tax documents to the wrong people earlier this year, according to a report into the cause of the incident. The report released Monday by the office of state Auditor of Accounts Doug Hoffer found there were inadequate controls in place to catch the error. The mistake led to the state Department of Labor to recall thousands of 1099-G forms sent to people who received unemployment assistance that included names, addresses and Social Security numbers.

BRATTLEBORO — More than 90 employees at Vermont Bread Company in Cotton Mill are without jobs today, according to a notice filed with the Vermont Department of Labor. “In accordance with any obligations under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act this letter is to inform you that Koffee Kup Bakery, Inc. and its subsidiary Vermont Bread Company . has announced that it will be terminating all operations, effective April 26, 2021,” wrote Jeff Sands in the notice. Sands is the senior advisor in North America for American Industrial Acquisition Corporation, which acquired a majority of the shares of Koffee Kup on April 1.
