Vermont Business Magazine Attorney General TJ Donovan and Secretary of State Jim Condos are warning Vermont businesses that a Florida-based company, Centurion Filing Services, LLC, calling itself VT Certificate Service, is mailing businesses a request for payment for a “certificate of good standing.” The mailing which looks like a bill requesting a “fee” of $87.50 has the recipient’s information pre-printed on the form and creates a false sense of urgency by using the terms “Notice Date” and “Please Respond By.” It also deceptively suggests officiality by referring to the “State of Vermont” and the “Secretary of State” when it is not affiliated with any State agency.

Vermont Business Magazine Attorney General TJ Donovan announced that the State of Vermont filed a civil lawsuit in Orleans County Superior Court for timber trespass at Hazen’s Notch State Park. The state alleges that, in 2019, the Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation (FPR) observed an area of trees and shrubs cut on state land within a designated natural area of the Park. In its complaint, the state alleges that Thomas Tremonte, an abutting property owner, cut timber and brush on the state park land without approval.
Tremonte in an interview confirmed the cutting was for the purpose of backcountry skiing. The lawsuit seeks treble damages for the value of the timber damaged in the cut and also requests remediation of the affected area.

Vermont Business Magazine Attorney General TJ Donovan today filed a lawsuit on behalf of State Auditor Doug Hoffer against OneCare Vermont after the accountable care organization breached its contract with the State by repeatedly refusing to provide accounting records to the State Auditor.
OneCare, the state’s only accountable care organization, is charged with improving the health of Vermonters and lowering health care costs. Since 2017, the organization has agreed to be accountable for over $1 billion in health care services provided to Vermonters through Medicaid.
See OneCare response HERE.
Auditor Hoffer has requested records from OneCare to ensure that Vermont tax dollars are being efficiently used, but OneCare has repeatedly refused his requests.
