Marsaxlokk put out a statement of intent on Sunday as they put six past Mqabba at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. It was a one-sided encounter with the southseasiders in complete control from start to finish.
While the scoreline indicates Marsaxlokk’s superiority, coach Edgar Degabriele admits it is redemption for offensive problems during their first season back in the Challenge League.
“Today I’m more than satisfied with my team’s performance. I believe it was the solution to a problem we had and which we’ve been working on – getting into the final third and scoring,” Degabriele told The Times of Malta.
San Ġwann cemented their place within the top four of the Challenge League on Sunday as they closed off their first-round commitments with a 3-0 victory over Fgura United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
San Ġwann coach Jean Paul Desira sounded his enthusiasm towards the positive run of games they’ve had since their promotion from the formerly known Second Division, which now sees them solely occupying fourth place on 24 points before the start of the business end of the season.
“We’ve ended this round on 24 points and hopefully we can have another positive round like this so we can remain in the division for next season,” Desira told The Times of Malta.
Żebbuġ Rangers moved up the table with a 4-1 win over St Andrews on Sunday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
However, it was not as emphatic as the scoreline suggests and new coach Fausto Craighero admitted it only gives his side credit for the better performances in previous games which did not add up to the full three points.
In fact, the side had only two points to show for the past five games before their win over St Andrews. But Craighero, who replaced Clive Mizzi late October with the club in a particularly tight spot, said the performances show otherwise.
