Victor Valley College, Barstow Community College pledge to invest in entrepreneurship Schools commit to supporting small businesses, local economies By Charity Lindsey Victor Valley College Twelve junior colleges in the Inland Empire and desert region including Victor Valley College and Barstow Community College recently took a pledge to support local startups and entrepreneurs in their respective communities. On Feb. 8, VVC Superintendent/President Dr. Daniel Walden and BCC Superintendent/President Dr. Eva Bagg both signed the Presidents for Entrepreneurship Pledge (PFEP) along with 10 other counterparts in the Inland Empire / Desert Region Consortium of community colleges (IEDRC). The signing event took place virtually, hosted by the partner organization, the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE).

New agreement between Victorville, San Bernardino County Fire could save some more lives Victorville Daily Press An agreement city officials say will reduce response times for emergencies, such as car crashes and strokes, has been approved by the Victorville City Council. The City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously in favor of the automatic aid agreement between the Victorville Fire and San Bernardino County Fire departments. As part of the agreement, fire engines from both departments can be dispatched to a call based on proximity, regardless of whether an emergency occurs within city or county boundaries. Previously, the city and county operated under a mutual aid agreement, which required prior authorization for assistance and a potentially longer wait time for someone in need of emergency services.

Born Marion Fleming in an air-raid shelter in Edinburgh, Scotland during World War II, the woman we know as Mimi spent her first 12 years in orphanages. She came to the United States in 1954 as a foster child of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.  Roy and Dale’s trip to the British Isles and the grand welcome they received were described in the January-February and March-April 1954 issues of Double R Bar Ranch News. When Mimi saw the issues at my home, she declared, Oh, that s the trip when they got me!

COVID-19 testing event scheduled at the Lucerne Valley Senior Center

Victorville Daily Press Public health officials will conduct free COVID-19 testing at the Lucerne Valley Senior Center on Saturday, Feb. 6, following the opening of a week-long appointment window.  The testing provided by San Bernardino County is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 6. Those who attend are not required to have symptoms before receiving a test. Face masks are required at all times during the event. Appointments recommended County officials, in a flier, said appointments were “highly recommended” due to a high demand for testing. As a result, Walk-ins may experience longer wait times. The appointment window opens Saturday, Jan. 30, according to Lucerne Valley Economic Development Association President Chuck Bell, who emphasized that the event is not for vaccinations.
