Williamson was given the award on the back of his impressive run in Tests during the summer, where he scored a career-best 251 against the West Indies in Hamilton, followed by a century on his home ground in Tauranga during the Boxing Day Test. He also made a double-century against Pakistan in Christchurch, which helped New Zealand book their place in the ICC World Test Championship final. Overall, New Zealand won 17 out of 20 matches they played during the summer, and claimed all seven series.

Auckland Hearts to host Canterbury Magicians in domestic one-day cricket final

The Auckland Hearts will host the Canterbury Magicians in the final of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition after beating them on Sunday, despite finishing behind them on the ladder. With Hagley Oval hosting a Black Caps’ ODI against Bangladesh next Tuesday and the Canterbury men in action in the Plunket Shield in Rangiora, the Magicians have given up hosting rights for the decider, which will take place next Sunday at Eden Park Outer Oval, the same venue where the teams met twice this weekend.
