December 17, 2020   ·   0 Comments By: Paula Brown, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Dufferin County has officially moved into the “Red” zone of the COVID-19 framework, following recommendations made by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH), brought about by the rising number of new and active cases in Wellington and Guelph. “Dr. Mercer made the recommendation because she had significant concerns in certain areas in our jurisdiction, that [case numbers] weren’t going down and we’re continuing to go in the other direction,” said Rita Isley, WDGPH director of community health. Town Employee test positive for COVID-19 | Orangeville Citizen

The staff member is currently in isolation and is working with the Town of Orangeville and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health on the matter. While the person who tested positive was working out of the Town’s facilities, they did not have any contact with program participants and Public Health has advised that the incident is low risk. Public Health is in the process of completing its protocols with respect to COVID-19 and is expected to contact individuals who may have been exposed to the staff member who contracted the virus.

COVID-19: Health officials report two more deaths in Dufferin County

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is reporting two more deaths related to COVID-19 in Dufferin County. Public Health staff say a 56-year-old man and a 90-year-old man have died from complications related to the virus. Health unit spokesperson Danny Williamson could not confirm if the individuals were in a care home, hospital or private residence due to privacy concerns. Since the outbreak began, 26 Dufferin County residents have died from COVID-19. There were six newly confirmed cases yesterday (Wednesday) and seven of the 37 individuals actively fighting COVID-19 are hospitalized.

York Region enters 28-day provincial lockdown

York Region enters 28-day provincial lockdown by Michael Ranger Last Updated Dec 14, 2020 at 10:29 am EDT York Region has entered the province’s ‘Grey-Lockdown’ zone of public health restrictions. The new measures are effective as of 12:01 a.m. Monday and will be in place for at least 28 days, until Jan. 11. Lockdown measures include no indoor organized public events and social gatherings, except with members of the same household, and a limit for outdoor organized public events and social gatherings of 10 people. Indoor and outdoor dining  is also prohibited while retail is open for curbside pick-up or delivery only, with few exceptions.
