(Photo provided) ELIZABETHTOWN The University of Vermont Health Network’s Elizabethtown Community Hospital announced Thursday the appointment of its new president, Bob Ortmyer. He will formally begin his role on July 12. Ortmyer has been with WellSpan Health System in York, Pennsylvania, for 30 years, serving in a number of leadership positions. In his current role as vice president and chief operating officer at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital, he is responsible for a 141-bed acute care hospital within an eight-hospital system. “Bob has the right mix of experience and skills to lead ECH as it continues to thrive and grow,” Dr. John Brumsted, president and CEO of the UVM Health Network, said in a press release. “Equally as important, he shares the UVM Health Network’s commitment to ensuring outstanding health care is accessible and affordable for years to come in this region.”

PHOENIXVILLE, PA Hospital safety grades from Leapfrog were low for several Tower Health hospitals in Chester County, including Phoenixville Hospital, Brandywine Hospital, and Pottstown Hospital.
The three facilities were awarded grades of D by the Leapfrog Group, an organization the performs regular assessments of hospitals. Numerous Pennsylvania hospitals received top safety marks while others didn t quite measure up in The Leapfrog Group s annual spring safety grades.
The nonprofit health care watchdog group grades hospitals twice a year, assigning letter grades from A to F based on each hospital s ability to protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries, and infections.
As demand wanes, WellSpan Health offers walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations

WellSpan is now accepting walk-ins for COVID-19 vaccinations, and a spokesperson says it is because there has been a decrease in the number of people seeking shots.
As of Friday, anyone 16 years and older can get vaccinated the same day from noon to 3 p.m. on selected days and at selected locations, according to a WellSpan Health news release.
WellSpan started seeing a decline in demand about two weeks ago, which could be attributed to existing barriers such as scheduling conflicts or vaccine hesitancy, spokesperson Ryan Coyle said. We re seeing the same decline in requests for appointments that health systems are seeing around Pennsylvania and around the country, Coyle said. We believe there s a great number of people that are hesitant.

WellSpan Health will soon offer walk-in hours for those seeking COVID-19 vaccines.
Beginning Friday, April 30, WellSpan will offer select days and times where people can walk in and get vaccinated without an appointment.
Stephanie Andreozzi, co-lead of WellSpan’s Vaccination Team, said WellSpan is aiming to make vaccines more accessible.
“Our goal is to make this shot of hope as accessible as possible so we can get back to hugging our loved ones and doing the things we’ve been putting off,” she said in a statement. “WellSpan Health is committed to decreasing vaccine hesitancy and we know that taking this step will help patients who are struggling to make time for an appointment.”
