At WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, about 100 kids a year fall into that category. “This number has grown with the COVID-19 outbreak, and the ER is more stressful now than ever for these children,” Deirdre Carmichael, director of workplace campaigns for United Way of Lebanon County, said in a press release. Advertisement Once United Way learned from the hospital’s Lebanon County Crisis Intervention team about the situation, both parties got to work. The result of their collaboration is Kits of Comfort & Joy. Designed to provide a stress-relieving and positive outlet for children, the kits include a blanket or stuffed animal, an age-appropriate puzzle, a fidget toy, a book and an age-appropriate activity.

Advertisement The mood went from festive to electric as the WellSpan van rolled up to Good Samaritan Hospital’s main entrance at 10:30 this morning, Tuesday, Dec. 15. The box, maybe two feet square and three feet tall, was placed on a hand truck by the driver and rolled into the hospital’s main entrance as employees lined the way.

Lebanon County expects to receive and administer its first batch of the long-awaited Pfizer vaccine today, a hospital official said Monday. “WellSpan received notification from the Pennsylvania Department of Health that seven of WellSpan’s hospitals serving as point of distribution (POD) sites to vaccinate frontline employees are included in the state’s first 100 hospitals to receive vaccine shipments,” Ryan Coyle, manager of public relations and communications at WellSpan Health, said in an email Monday morning.
