Vaccine’s arrival on Rock signals ‘beginning of end of Covid nightmare’

The “beginning to the end of the Covid-19 nightmare” will commence at 8am Sunday morning following the arrival of approximately 7,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine on a military aircraft on Saturday evening.
The highly anticipated arrival was followed by many across the Rock on flight-tracking software, and by officials and dignitaries who were present on the airfield apron and in the basement of St Bernard’s Hospital where the vaccines will be kept in freezers under high surveillance.
The Governor, Vice Admiral Sir David Steel, and Chief Minister Fabian Picardo were at the airfield to see the A400 land in unpleasant weather conditions.

Peter Thomas Wanless, Chief Executive Officer, NSPCC receives a Knighthood for services to Children, to Young People and to the Charitable Sector.
The 56-year-old, who lives near Sevenoaks, has been the nationwide charity s boss since 2013 and previously held a variety of posts at the HM Treasury.

A Conservative MP is set to be paid £125 an hour by a timber company that he lobbied government ministers and Britain’s high commissioner in Ghana to help, sparking calls from transparency campaigners for an investigation.
Andrew Bridgen, a leading member of the European Research Group of pro-Brexit MPs, is to receive £12,000 a year for working just eight hours a month for Mere Plantations, a company that owns a reported £500million worth of teak forest in Ghana.
The MP has been declared as a director of the company since May, according to Parliament’s Register of Members’ Financial Interests.

India, UK Discuss Blueprint to Deepen Indo-Pacific Cooperation
NEW DELHI Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab held talks in New Delhi on Dec. 15 about a wide range of topics that included deepening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, confronting security threats in the region, working together to end the coronavirus crisis, and tackling climate change.
“Welcomed UK’s Indo-Pacific tilt. Will cooperate closely on global issues and in multilateral organizations,” Jaishankar said in a message on Twitter. “Discussed opportunities in a post-COVID post-Brexit world for a stronger India-UK partnership. Working on Roadmap 2030 to that end.”
Raab, who also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Dec. 16, said the United Kingdom is “committed to building a closer relationship with India.”
