UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has previously described himself as a son-in-law of India , owing to his former wife s Indian mother. According to reports, he is a self-proclaimed Indophile. While in office, he has also put on record his fervent Sinophilia. But can he really be both?
Perhaps. I am sure it is perfectly possible for one person to have a profound attachment to the people and culture of both India and China. Although I suspect in the Johnson s case, such words are motivated by a desire to be popular and increase trade with as many countries across the world as possible. Aircraft have been instructed to avoid Belarusian airspace following the “state-sponsored hijack” of a Ryanair flight to enable the arrest of a prominent critic of Alexander Lukashenko’s regime.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said further sanctions are being considered against the Lukashenko administration – including the suspension of energy pipelines in Belarus – and Belarus’s ambassador in London had been summoned for a dressing down.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said he has instructed the Civil Aviation Authority to request airlines avoid Belarusian airspace “in order to keep passengers safe”.
He also suspended the operating permit for Belavia, the country’s state-owned airline.

BRUSSELS The European Union, the US and UK have condemned the diversion of a flight by Belarus on Sunday to arrest a journalist.
European leaders are to discuss the situation at a meeting on Monday, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, warning, the outrageous and illegal behavior of the regime in Belarus will have consequences. Those responsible for the Ryanair hijacking must be sanctioned, she added.
Belarus forced Sunday s Ryanair flight FR4978 from Athens to Vilnius in Lithuania to divert before arresting activist Roman Protasevich.
