UK, U.S. foreign ministers meet on COVID-19, free trade deal

LONDON, May 3 (Xinhua) British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on Monday met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss efforts to build back better from COVID-19 and a possible free trade agreement between the two countries. The meeting took place in London ahead of the first in-person meeting of the Group of Seven (G7) foreign and development ministers in two years, according to a statement by the British government. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab hosted U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken at 1 Carlton Gardens ahead of this week s G7 Foreign Ministers meeting. They held a discussion on foreign policy priorities and opportunities to strengthen the UK-U.S. friendship, a British Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spokesperson said in a statement.

Good chance one-metre-plus rule can be ditched on June 21, says UK PM

(Alliance News) - There is a good chance the one-metre plus rule for social distancing can be ditched next month, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Monday.
The final decision on whether the change can be brought in from June 21 will depend on the data, the Johnson added.
UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock, meanwhile, expressed certainty over a great British summer ahead as he confirmed that a total of 50 million Covid-19 jabs have been given out across the UK.
Johnson said he feels like the next stage of reopening on May 17 – which covers indoor hospitality, entertainment and possibly foreign travel – is going to be good .
