Last month, the government announced much-awaited reforms for the civil service and introduced changes to rules governing civil servants. However, it seems to be more of an attempt to reform the civil servant rather than the civil service. Civil servants will not be reformed unless the civil service undergoes some drastic changes which continue to be elusive.

Graduation Ceremony of 40th Specialized Diplomatic Course held

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Graduation Ceremony of the 40th Specialized Diplomatic Course was held at the Foreign Service Academy in Islamabad on Wednesday.
In his address at the Ceremony as the Chief Guest, the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi urged the diplomats to be innovative and mould themselves according to modern demands of diplomacy to achieve goals efficiently and effectively.

The foreign minister said that a series of reforms have been instituted in the Foreign Ministry which is today more open to inputs for policy formulation.
Cabinet panel approves proposals for separate cadre of professionals
ISLAMABAD:
The Cabinet Committee on Institutional Reforms has approved a set of proposals, including the proposal for renaming the existing Central Superior Services (CSS) as the Central Services of Pakistan (CSP).
The cabinet committee has also approved several recommendations of the Task Force on Institutional Reforms, including a separate cadre of professionals such as engineers, doctors and foreign postings, and criteria for placement and promotions of officers in the future.
The ministerial panel also formed a subcommittee headed by the deputy chairman of the Planning Commission (PC) and comprising secretaries of establishment, law and finance divisions to suggest an implementation plan for formulation of separate cadres and framing service rules.
