Maldives has signed a project document with the United Nations in the Maldives, enabling the island nation to recover better from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The project document titled “Protecting Women and Children: Digitalizing and Streamlining Social Services and Creating a Unified Platform for National Care” was signed by Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and the United Nations Resident Coordinator Catherine Haswell during a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
The project aims to link progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in the Maldives road to recovery from Covid-19.

Maldives remains grateful to India for always keeping Maldives at the top of the list, for which India has been providing aid and timely assistance.
These remarks were reiterated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Minister of Health, Ahmed Naseem during the ceremony held at the Velana International Airport (VIA) to receive the India-sourced Oxford-AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine doses provided by the neighboring nation.
As such, both ministers expressed immense gratitude to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and the country’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar for the generous donation of Covid-19 vaccines to the Maldives, which they described would strengthen the battle against the pandemic.

The United Nations (UN) and Maldives on Thursday signed a project document on digitialising social services in order to better protect women and girls from poverty and violence during emergency situations.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Friday reiterated Maldives support for Morocco s position on the disputed Western Sahara region, once more calling for peaceful resolution through negotiations.
Shahid made the statement at the Virtual Ministerial Conference in Support of the Autonomy Initiative Under Moroccan Sovereignty , which was jointly held by Morocco and the United States.
Reaffirming Maldives backing of Morocco, Minister Shahid highlighted the close bilateral relations between the two countries across the areas of culture and heritage, education, climate change, economic cooperation, counterterrorism and de-radicalization, as well multilateral ties.
