De ambassadeurs van de EU-lidstaten hebben de definitieve compromistekst goedgekeurd van NDICI, het
instrument voor nabuurschapsbeleid, ontwikkeling en internationale samenwerking, een onderdeel van het meerjarig financieel kader (MFK) 2021-2027.
Met het budget van
€ 79,5 miljard kan de EU met
alle derde landen samenwerken, haar waarden en belangen wereldwijd doeltreffend verdedigen en promoten, en mondiale multilaterale inspanningen ondersteunen.
Dit nieuwe financieringsinstrument is een tastbaar bewijs dat de EU een wereldspeler wil zijn. Met de COVID-19-pandemie is onze verantwoordelijkheid verdubbeld. Dankzij NDICI kunnen we partnerlanden ondersteunen en wereldwijd duurzame ontwikkeling bevorderen.

EU member states ambassadors today endorsed the final compromise text of the regulation setting up the
Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument – Global Europe (NDICI), in the context of the 2021-2027 multiannual financial framework (MFF).
With an overall allocation of
€79.5 billion at current prices, the new instrument will cover EU cooperation with
all third countries, thereby allowing the EU to effectively uphold and promote its values and interests worldwide while supporting global multilateral efforts.

High Commissioner for Human Rights: There is no Evidence that the Death Penalty Deters Crime More Effectively than any other Punishment
The Human Rights Council this morning held its biennial high-level panel discussion on the question of the death penalty, with a focus on human rights violations related to the use of the death penalty, in particular with respect to whether the use of the death penalty has a deterrent effect on crime rate.
Michelle Bachelet, High Commissioner for Human Rights, said that there was no evidence that the death penalty deterred crime more effectively than any other punishment. Studies suggested that some States that had abolished the death penalty saw their murder rates unaltered or even decline.
