Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue has announced details of a series of four national dialogues on Ireland’s food system ahead of the UN summit this year.
These are being held as part of Ireland’s engagement with the UN Food Systems Summit 2021, which the Department of Agriculture is leading jointly with the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The virtual dialogues, hosted by the RDS, are designed to provide an opportunity for all stakeholders, from producers to consumers, to learn about their food system and contribute to its future sustainability. Each dialogue will feature a keynote speaker and a panel of stakeholders.

Ireland could reopen if stricter mandatory hotel quarantine system was in place, says Dr Gabriel Scally

Three people who absconded from hotel quarantine in north Dublin earlier today have been returned to the facility.
It is understood that the three people left the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry earlier today by car, and were later intercepted by a Garda motorway patrol near Loughrea in Co Galway.
Following a conversation with gardaí, it is understood the three people agreed to return to the designated quarantine facility.
A statement from the Garda Press Office confirmed that gardaí were liaising with the State Liaison Officer at a designated quarantine facility in accordance with current protocols following a report of three people leaving a facility in the Dublin area earlier today.
A number of Government departments have raised new concerns about plans to extend the mandatory hotel quarantine regime to a range of European countries, it has emerged.
A fresh dispute emerged following a meeting on Tuesday of seven Government departments which was designed to find agreement on how to handle passengers travelling from countries such as France, Germany and Italy.
It is understood at least four departments expressed concerns about what has been described by sources as a lack of a clear plan around how to increase the capacity within the system.
The meeting of senior officials included the Department of the Taoiseach as well as the departments of health, transport, foreign affairs, defence, justice and enterprise.
