OAKLAND, Calif - Businesses in downtown Oakland are boarding up their storefronts ahead of a protest set to take place at Frank Ogawa Plaza Friday night following the police killing of Daunte Wright.
On Monday, officer Kimberly Potter of the Brooklyn Center, Minn. police department shot and killed Wright, a 20-year-old African-American man. Potter, who has since resigned, says she mistakenly grabbed her gun instead of her taser. She has since been arrested on second-degree manslaughter charges.

Crowds poured into the streets in several U.S. cities on Friday night, reacting to the police shooting deaths of Daunte Wright in Minnesota and Adam Toledo in Chicago.
The greatest unrest Friday appeared to be in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, the Twin Cities suburb where Wright was fatally shot last Sunday, but events appeared to be deteriorating in Portland, Oregon, early Saturday, with reports of fires and possible gunfire.

Brooklyn Center: 100 arrests
An emergency curfew was imposed by police Friday night as rioting escalated outside police headquarters, FOX 9 of Minneapolis reported. As of early Saturday, Public Safety Commission John Harrington estimated about 100 people had been arrested.

Oakland police said late Friday evening that a crowd of demonstrators numbering from 250 to 300 participants who gathered downtown to protest recent deadly police shootings across the nation dispersed just after 11 p.m.
Oakland Police Department Spokesperson Johnna Watson said the demonstration began at about 9 p.m. at Frank Ogawa Plaza next to City Hall. The protesters then began marching through downtown streets, heading east along Broadway and Telegraph Avenue. Watson added that some f the demonstrators began breaking numerous business and storefront windows, spraypainting buildings and setting various debris fires. Windows were smashed at the Target store on Broadway, and a new car was set ablaze at a Honda dealership on Broadway after a showroom window was shattered and protesters set the vehicle on fire.

A protest in Oakland, California turned violent on Friday night, with some demonstrators smashing storefronts and one local car dealership suffering fire damage.
Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets to protest against the death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright, who was shot and killed by Minnesota police officer Kim Potter on Sunday during a traffic stop. Potter has been charged with second-degree manslaughter.
Friday s protest was mostly peaceful, according to ABC7 News, but a small number of demonstrators smashed windows of some local businesses, while at least one vehicle was set on fire in the showroom of a Honda dealership in the 3300 block of the city s Broadway area.
