Prosecutors in Cuyahoga County among the nation’s leaders in seeking the death penalty since 1970s, researchers say John Caniglia, cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio Cuyahoga County has been one of the leading counties in the country in imposing the death penalty since 1972, a push that appears to be propelled by its past handling of such cases, a recent study found.
Researchers say that the county and a cluster of others with large numbers of death cases are expected to continue pushing the sentence based upon their knowledge of the complex legal process and the culture of their communities.
“This model shows that the cumulative number of death sentences previously imposed in the same county is a strong predictor of the number imposed in a given year,” says the study, “Learning to Kill: Why a Handful of Counties Generates the Bulk of U.S. Death Sentences.”

While he did not ticket her, the officer questioned her reason for being out that morning – it was too early for Bible study groups, he said sarcastically.
