Lake County Sheriff s Office looking for Umatilla shooting suspect

UMATILLA Lake County sheriff’s investigators have identified the victim of Wednesday morning’s shooting as Kevin Hutcheson, 42, of Umatilla. But detectives are still searching for the suspect in the 11:20 a.m. shooting at Hutcheson’s home at 51 Highland Ave. Hutcheson was taken to a hospital in critical condition.  The shooter was described as a black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks. He fled in a dark-colored passenger vehicle with tinted windows. Though the motive is not clear, they do not believe the shooting was random, said LCSO Lt. John Herrell. The Umatilla Police Department asked the sheriff’s office to take over the case.

Grave robberies in Mount Dora: Detectives say thefts were for rituals

Modern science used to find cemetery suspects Brian Montalvo Tolentino, 43, of Davenport, confessed to Lake sheriff’s detectives after crime lab analysis matched his DNA to genetic material found on a partially smoked cigar at the cemetery on Britt Road. Once they had that information, investigators leveraged another tool of modern science in their interview with him: Information from a traffic camera. A license plate reader recorded the number on Tolentino’s car at U.S. Highway 27 and Interstate 4 at 6:52 p.m. on Dec. 5 and at 3:05 a.m. on Dec. 6. It is not clear from early reports why his DNA was stored in the crime computer. To make sure it was a match, Lake County Sheriff s Office detectives asked the Polk County Sheriff’s Office to get a search warrant to obtain a buccal swab.

A girl had called her father on her cell phone to tell him she was being threatened.   Treasure was removed from the bus and searched, but the pat-down did not turn up a knife. He claimed he was using a pencil to poke the seat “to mess around as a joke.”
