20 lakh doses Indian gift of Oxford Covid vaccine arrives
Two million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine made by the Serum Institute of India arrived in Dhaka on Thursday morning as a “gift” from New Delhi.
A special flight of India carrying the consignment landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:20am, Airport sources said.
Later, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami handed over the vaccine to foreign Minister AK Abdul Momenat in a formal ceremony at State Guesthouse Padma.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and other high government officials were present on the occasion.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Thursday the arrival of 20 lakh doses of Oxford vaccine from India shows the sign of strong relations and goodwill between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
“It’s a historic day. They’ve (Hasina and Modi) achieved such a goodwill and strong relations! It shows the sign of that bonding,” he said after receiving the Oxford University and AstraZeneca vaccine as gift from India.

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh received its first ever COVID-19 vaccine consignment today as India sent 20 million doses of inoculate as gift as part of their neighborhood plus policy.
A chartered Air India plane, carrying the jabs of Covishield, the coronavirus vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca and manufactured by Serum Institute of India, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:23 am.
Later, Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami handed over the vaccines formally to foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and health minister Zahid Maleque at a ceremony at state guest house Padma here.
