Arts & Culture Newsletter: Sutton Foster shines in Light

I’m David L. Coddon, and here’s your guide to all things essential in San Diego’s arts and culture this week. To all those who had tickets for or planned on getting some for “An Evening With Sutton Foster,” scheduled for March 21 at Copley Symphony Hall but obviously canceled, take heart. I’ve got a consolation prize for you. For 35 bucks, you can watch New York City Center Digital’s presentation of “Sutton Foster / Bring Me to Light.” It’s an hour’s worth of the Broadway star at her most effervescent bantering with friends and cohorts, sincerely addressing her fans and, of course, singing many beloved Broadway tunes.

Manufacturing Bits: May 4

Manufacturing Bits: May 4 Measuring Moon dust The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and others have developed a new way to study and measure moon dust. Using an X-ray nano computed tomography (XCT) technique, researchers measured the 3D shapes of lunar particles as small as 400nm in length. The goal is to find out how these shapes impact the optical scattering characteristics of lunar dust on the Moon. These measurements could provide more insights in terms of the Moon and its color and brightness. “This in turn might help improve tracking of weather patterns and other phenomena by satellite cameras that use the Moon as a calibration source,” according to NIST.

Science without gravity aboard the International Space Station

Science without gravity aboard the International Space Station published : 21 Apr 2021 at 13:45 More than 3,000 scientific tests have been carried out in the near weightlessness of the ISS since manned missions began in 2000. PARIS: In two decades orbiting the Earth the International Space Station has become a cutting-edge cosmic laboratory, with astronauts researching everything from black holes to disease and even gardening in microgravity. The ISS, which orbits about 250 miles above Earth, is as large as a football field inside and divided up like a beehive into spaces where the crew can carry out experiments with guidance from researchers on the ground.
