Since January 1
st, the Olds RCMP have arrested and charged 45 impaired drivers. 27 of these were in the Town of Olds alone. Staff Sergeant Jim MacDonald says it is evident that some people still don’t understand the dangers and consequences of driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
As of December 1
st, Alberta’s impaired driving laws changed with the introduction of a new Immediate Roadside Sanction program. This new program imposes more immediate consequences for impaired drivers on our provincial roads.
The new sanctions will include fines up to $2000, an increased length of vehicle seizures for up to 30 days, increased driver suspensions, mandatory education programs and ignition interlock devices for repeat offenders.
