(AP) The owners of a now-closed Waterbury juice bar are facing federal charges for allegedly being involved in a sweepstakes scam that preyed on senior citizens. A federal criminal complaint unsealed last month in Arizona charged Zonia Wright and her husband, Obrian Wright, with conspiracy to commit money laundering. Zonia Wright opened the Raw Deal Juice Bar in downtown Waterbury in 2017 but the business only saw a trickle of customers despite being touted on Mayor Neil M. O’Leary s Facebook page in 2019, the Republican-American reported. FBI agents questioned the couple in September 2019, and the juice bar closed several months later, the newspaper reported.

in Somerset County LOCK HAVEN Lock Haven City Police reported that a man sought in a Feb. 28 robbery was apprehended in Somerset County on Tuesday. Police had issued a warrant for the arrest of Torr Thomas Gray on March 1. Police were looking for Gray following the incident on Feb. 28, when they say he entered a business on N. Vesper Street at 12:30 a.m. and encountered the 19-year-old victim. Police say that Gray grabbed ahold of the victim, threw him on the ground, punched him numerous times in the face and head, then stole his wallet. Police said Gray was identified through surveillance video.

Scams never seem to stop

A local woman said she received a call from an apparent scammer this week. The woman said she got a call saying she had won money from Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes Of course, the catch, she said, was she was asked to send fee money to cover the taxes. “I didn’t do it,” she said. “I knew it was a scam. Please never send money.” Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen, of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, said he receives calls on a daily basis regarding scams. He even said Sheriff Chuck Phillips received a call this week regarding a social security card scam.
