The Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), QU Dongyu, today met virtually the Group of Arab Ambassadors in Rome where he had the opportunity to talk about the FAO’s reform and reorganization, its work and the importance of transforming agri-food systems in the Arab world.
In his opening remarks, the Director-General stressed that the continued structural reforms are making FAO more dynamic, results-oriented and closer to its Members.
“A new modular and flexible headquarters structure ensures efficiency, effectiveness and cross-sectoral collaboration. Breaking down silos and strengthening the enabling environment makes us better positioned to respond rapidly to emerging needs and priorities,” Qu said.

This session is designed to meet the needs of health and social development advisers and those from the wider health network and from other cadres with an interest in health, equity and justice.
Why this session now?
The impacts of COVID-19 have been harshest for existing marginalized and excluded groups; although new vulnerabilities have also emerged, and drivers of exclusion have intensified. The impact of COVID-19 on health seeking experiences, opportunities and outcomes is wide reaching with implications for models and understanding of Leaving No One Behind and Universal Health Coverage. To reach the Sustainable Development Goals, policy makers and funding agencies need to consider and confront a number of issues to be discussed in this session, including:

The Digital Agriculture Forum 2020, an inspiration to create business with real impact for people with real needs
Aiming to foster an enabling ecosystem to accelerate the digital transformation of agri-food systems through leveraging on innovative business models and digital solutions and enhancing knowledge exchanges in digital agriculture policies and practices, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Zhejiang University co-organized the Digital Agriculture Forum on 5-6 December 2020.

For Penn State Lehigh Valley Associate Professor of Psychology David Livert, who serves as the main representative for the United Nations (UN) team of Society for the Psychological Study on Social Issues (SPSSI), it was an opportunity for he and his team to make a statement on racism to the UN. Titled “Beyond the Human Rights Rhetoric on Leaving No One Behind: Integrating the Elimination of Racism and Racial and Ethnic Discrimination into the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) the statement was finalized in September and endorsed by 85 nongovernmental organizations in the UN community. Submitted as part of the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the global group during 2020 meeting of the General Assembly, Livert and his team later presented it at the Human Rights Conference sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in the fall.
