FAO - News Article: Working together with Arab countries to transform agri-food systems

18/02/2021 18 February 2021, Rome –  The Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), QU Dongyu, today met virtually the Group of Arab Ambassadors in Rome where he had the opportunity to talk about the FAO’s reform and reorganization, its work and the importance of transforming agri-food systems in the Arab world. In his opening remarks, the Director-General stressed that the continued structural reforms are making FAO more dynamic, results-oriented and closer to its Members. “A new modular and flexible headquarters structure ensures efficiency, effectiveness and cross-sectoral collaboration. Breaking down silos and strengthening the enabling environment makes us better positioned to respond rapidly to emerging needs and priorities,” Qu said.

PSU-LV professor leads UN team on statement on racism

IMAGE: David Livert For Penn State Lehigh Valley Associate Professor of Psychology David Livert, who serves as the main representative for the United Nations (UN) team of Society for the Psychological Study on Social Issues (SPSSI), it was an opportunity for he and his team to make a statement on racism to the UN. Titled “Beyond the Human Rights Rhetoric on Leaving No One Behind: Integrating the Elimination of Racism and Racial and Ethnic Discrimination into the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) the statement was finalized in September and endorsed by 85 nongovernmental organizations in the UN community. Submitted as part of the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the global group during 2020 meeting of the General Assembly, Livert and his team later presented it at the Human Rights Conference sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in the fall.
